Biography

Mr. Lila Sayi Mandu is a trainer, consultant, and researcher in strategic communication, including corporate communications, public relations, advertising, and behaviour change communication. He is finalizing his PhD at the University of Dar es Salaam. He holds an M.A. in communication studies from the University of Nairobi-Kenya, B.A. Mass Communication from the St. Augustine University of Tanzania and a Diploma in Education from Butimba Teachers College-Mwanza. 

Before joining the University of Dar es Salaam, Mr. Mandu worked as an Assistant Lecturer at St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) between 2011 and 2015. From 2015 to 2019, he served as the Senior I.E.C officer for the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE). He has also been involved in several professional tasks, including being a team member in developing a Communication Policy/Strategy for the Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA), training Civil servants on PR campaign at the Center for Economic Diplomacy (2020-2024), and seminar presentations on Communication policy/skills at the Center for Communication Studies – College of Humanities, University of Dar es Salaam.

Mr. Mandu has also Worked as a rapporteur in different conferences, such as the National Conference on Ending Violence against Women and Children in Tanzania held on 21st – 22nd March 2019 at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), and also a Conference for the African Climate Change Adaptation Initiative (ACCAI) Climate Change and Food Security, hosted by the Center for Climate Change studies-UDSM, conducted from 21st to 22nd August 2019.

In 2021, Mr. Mandu was engaged by ‘Hakielimu’- A Civil Society organization, as a team member in evaluating Evidence-based Communication for social justice project- in Sumbawanga District. In 2024, the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) involved Mr. Mandu in conducting audience research for the Mara and Mwanza regions. 

His current research is ‘Institutional Communication Frameworks for Behavioural Change in Managing Climatic and Environmental Risks in Simiyu-Tanzania’.
