Biography

Aron Kondoro is a Lecturer in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department at the University of Dar-es-Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania. He holds a PhD in Information and Communication Technology from The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden. He also has a master’s degree in information and communication systems security and a Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) certificate from the University Computing Centre (UCC).

 

Dr. Aron has extensive research experience in ICT and has published several journal articles in ICT security, mobile-based digital solutions, and education technologies. He works as a consultant for the EdTechHub providing technical assistance on the use of technology in teachers' continuous professional development for primary education in Tanzania. He is also involved in various ICT-related consultancies and projects, showcasing his expertise as an ICT system analyst. He has provided consultancy services for private and public clients, including the United Nations, Cambridge Education Tanzania Limited, Ministry of Finance and Planning, Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, and the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE).

Projects

The Harnessing AI project investigates the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate multimedia-enhanced educational content for STEM subjects in Tanzanian primary schools.

 

Key objectives:

  • Assess the feasibility of using AI content generators for primary school education.
  • Enhance existing technology to generate Swahili educational content.
  • Create a prototype for automatic multimedia educational content generation.
  • Evaluate the impact of AI-generated content on teaching and learning.
  • Build local capacity for using AI in educational content creation.

Swahili Bookbot is a project focused on improving literacy in Tanzania by creating a digital reading tutor app in Swahili. The project aims to address educational challenges in Tanzania, particularly in rural areas, by providing an accessible and effective learning tool.

 

Key aspects of the project include:

  • Translating the Bookbot app and its content into Swahili.
  • Developing Swahili text-to-speech (TTS) and automatic speech recognition (ASR) technologies.
  • Creating a comprehensive Swahili literacy program.
  • Testing and refining the app with local children and teachers.
  • Releasing the app on major platforms for wide accessibility.
