Elizabeth Godwin Mahenge also known as "mamaaridhio" is a Swahili language teacher, creative author, dancer and performer to mention a few. Is the founder of the name "TBC ARIDHIO" and "TBC KAIFA" the new names for television and radio programs respectively. More details can be accessed via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJfY-4h12-U. 

Current Teaching Responsibilities: Am currently teaching four courses which are Swahili Communication 1A (SLL 1017F/S) and Swahili Communication 1B (SLL1117S) for the beginners. And Swahili Communication 2A (SLL2017F) and Swahili Communication 2 (SLL2117S) – for the intermediate level. I am now at UCT under staff exchange program between University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania (UDSM) and University of Cape Town in South Africa (UCT). The aim is to help UCT introduce Swahili Curriculum in the Faculty of Humanities. I’m an employee of University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania where I still have supervision responsibilities for PGD students in the Institute of Kiswahili Studies (I.K.S. – TATAKI, Taasisi ya Taaluma za Kiswahili).

Projects

Current Research Project/s: I am currently doing informal research on how best Swahili can be used as a linguistic market in South African context. This is “transformations in the curriculum” as instead of learning a language for mere communication purposes it should be used to expose students to other economic avenues like translation, interpretations, language teaching just to mention a few. 

Previous Research Project/s: 

My PhD study (2019) contributed much to the philosophy of “literature is a classroom” because can be used to teach and educate students and the public albinism. When I say “literature is a class” it means that, through the work of art I have researched, I have found that literature has been used to spread misconceptions and myths about albinism world-wide. Through

my research, I have found that literature can help disseminate accurate information about disability in general and albinism in particular. Through my research I have observed that the community has gained an understanding that, albinism is a biological phenomenon of inheriting the albinism gene from both parents, namely the father and mother.

 

Some copies of this thesis have been sent to SHIVYAWATA, which is the Federation of Associations of People with Disabilities in Tanzania. Similarly, other copies will be sent to Under The Same Sun (U.T.S.S.), Tanzania Albino Society and MyRight as these organizations are directly involved with people with albinism. By sharing copies with these institutions, it will spread the finding hence it will contribute to their various efforts to ensure the well-being of people with disabilities in the country.
