Mr. Edward Karikawe Paul is a Tutorial Assistant at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Dar es Salaam. He began his academic journey in 2019, enrolling in the Bachelor of Science in Marine Sciences program at the same institution. Recognized for his outstanding academic performance, he was named one of the top-performing students in 2022 and awarded the prestigious University of Dar es Salaam Merit Scholarship for the 2022/2023 academic year. This scholarship enabled him to pursue a master’s degree in marine sciences at the Institute of Marine Sciences. His research focuses on geospatial analysis for the management of marine and coastal resources. He is particularly passionate about leveraging Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies to evaluate and monitor nearshore environments.
Geospatial analysis for marine, coastal, and land-based resource management, with a focus on site suitability mapping for sustainable aquaculture, seaweed farming, and terrestrial land use planning. Expertise in using GIS and remote sensing to assess and monitor nearshore ecosystems, coral reefs, marine habitats, and land-based environmental factors to support sustainable resource utilization, conservation, and spatial planning
Hands-on experience in underwater research, using diving skills to collect in-situ data for validating GIS and remote sensing analyses. Proficient in conducting field surveys for coral reef monitoring, habitat mapping, and marine biodiversity assessments, which enhance the accuracy of spatial models
