Othman C. Othman is a Professor of analytical and instrumental chemistry at the Chemistry Department, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Prof. Othman received his BSc with Education in 1972 majoring in Chemistry and Physics, MSc. in Chemistry (1976) from the University of Dar es Salaam and PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of University of Dar es Salaam/Norwegian Technical University in Trondheim, Norway in 1986.
Prof. Othman was employed as a Tutorial Assistant at UDSM in 1972, an Assistant Lecturer in 1976, promoted to Lecturer position in 1980, Senior Lecturer in 1990, Associate Professor in 2002, Professor in 2015 and then Professor Emeritus in 2021. He has authored more than 61 scientific publications. His scientific research interests are in the field of Analytical chemistry, Quality control and assurance; Electroanalytical and Environmental Chemistry; Heavy metals in soil, water, air, and food. analytical methods development; Occupational health and safety; Science education, and Environmental pollution..
Prof. Othman has participated in different International Conferences and has presented many papers from his research findings. He was the Chairman of Tanzania Chemical Society (TCS).
Prof. Othman is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).
