The Institute of Marine Sciences was established in 1978 with the mandate to conduct research and offer postgraduate and undergraduate training and consultancy services in all aspects of marine sciences. Our vision is to become a centre of excellence in the advancement of knowledge in marine science.

On this website we provide not only information about the organization and general functioning of the Institute but also about our research programmes, postgraduate training programmes, and milestones. The Institute is the National Oceanographic Data Centre and you will find information on ocean data and information management in Tanzania.
