Dr. Richard J. Katemi from the Department of Mining & Mineral Processing Engineering at the School of Mines and Geosciences (SoMG) of the University of Dar es Salaam emerged the winner and scooped the first prize at the National Competition on Science, Technology and Innovation 2021 famously known as MAKISATU in Dodoma.
Dr. Katemi had produced a machine that manufactures Steel Balls which are very useful to small scale mining.
Four innovators from the University of Dar es Salaam units namely DUCE, CoICT, SoMG and MRI-Dodoma campus made to the Top Ten in the Universities Category.
Handling the Cheque to the winner, Dr Katemi is the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa at the Awards ceremony and closing of the MAKISATU.
Present at the event from the University of Dar es Salaam, was the Vice Chancellor, Prof. William Anangisye; Dr. Amelia Buriyo, Deputy Director of Innovation, who also represented the Deputy Vice Chancellor- Research; MUCE Deputy Principal-Academic, Dr. E. Haule; DUCE Deputy Principal, Dr. J. Mbuna and Director of Mineral Resources Institute Eng. E. Kapira.
