The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) staff football team has secured a momentous victory by clinching the championship title in The Aga Khan University (AKU) Bonanza held on Tuesday, 5^th March 2024. 

The event, which took place at the Aga Khan University grounds in Dar es Salaam, brought together various teams from esteemed institutions, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition.

The invitation extended by the Aga Khan University (AKU) saw participation from two teams representing the University of Dar es Salaam: the staff team and the students’ team. Among the six competing teams were Aga Khan Education Services (AKEST) students, UDSM students, UDSM staff, AKU staff, AKU students, and Magnet team.

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the UDSM staff team showcased their prowess in the football field, culminating in a gripping final match. Goals by Zuvu Kitenge, hailing from the University's Library, sealed their victory with a score line of 2-1 in the final match.

The significance of this triumph extends beyond the field, embodying the spirit of collaboration and friendship between the University of Dar es Salaam and the Aga Khan University. 

The intercollegiate sports activity, proposed by The Aga Khan University, served as a platform to commemorate the contributions of their outgoing Provost and Vice President, Academic, Dr. Carl Amrhein. It also reinforced the collaborative efforts initiated by the recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two institutions.

Dr. Eunice S. Pallangyo, ​Associate Vice Regional Provost at The Aga Khan University Tanzania, expressed her gratitude for the participation and support from UDSM and stressed on the importance of such events in fostering unity and sportsmanship among academic communities.

Dr. Mwajuma Vuzo, UDSM Director of Social Services, commended the University of Dar es Salaam staff football team performance and said that their success did not only bring pride to the institution but also exemplified the dedication and talent present among UDSM staff members.

“As they celebrate this remarkable achievement, the team looks forward to future opportunities for collaboration and friendly competitions on both academic and athletic fronts”, said Dr. Vuzo.
