The commandant of the Dar es Salaam police special zone, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Muliro Jumanne Muliro, has commended the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) for conducting a comprehensive month-long readiness and resilience training programme for its auxiliary police.
Speaking during the closing ceremony on Tuesday 6th June, 2023 at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Mlimani Campus, SACP Muliro said that the successful completion of the rigorous training programme solidified the commitment of both the police force and the government of under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief H.E. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, to maintain peace and tranquility in the country.
“This training programme was indispensable as it equipped the auxiliary police with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively carry out their responsibilities, thus fostering a safer environment for all members of the University of Dar es Salaam”, said SACP Muliro.
SACP Muliro further commended the robust collaborative partnership between the UDSM Auxiliary Police and the Police Force, which was instrumental in ensuring safety and security of the University community.
Meanwhile, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam, Prof. Bernadeta Killian (who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor-Planning, Finance and Administration) extended heartfelt appreciation to the Police Force, headed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Camilius Wambura for the unwavering support to the University.
Prof. Killian reiterated the University's commitment to establishing a long-lasting partnership with the police force. She urged the auxiliary police to adopt a change of attitude and transit into highly trained professionals supporting teaching and learning within the academic environment.
“It is very important for you to have a positive attitude and responsible behaviour in your daily working in order to create a safer and more conducive learning atmosphere at the University for the wellbeing of staff, students and the entire University community”, she insisted.
The Commandant of the UDSM Auxiliary Police, Mr. Johnbosco Kiringo, assured Commander Muliro of the auxiliary police's dedication to diligent utilising of the skills acquired during the training programme.
“Through this training and others, our aim is to elevate auxiliary police’s professional standards, so as to maintain the existence of a safe place for the academic community at the University of Dar es Salaam”, said Mr. Kiringo.
Distinguished guests in attendance at this ceremony included the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mtatiro Kitinkwi, the Kinondoni Police Regional Commissioner, and ACP Ally Wendo, the Community Police Commander in the Kinondoni police region.
Also present were Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Festom Makoti, the Officer in Charge of the UDSM Police Post – who previously led the welcoming parade, and Dr. Mwajuma Vuzo, the Director of Social Services at UDSM.
