The University of Dar es Salaam Academic Staff Assembly (UDASA) held its Sports and Health Bonanza on 19th March 2022 at the University Sports Grounds. It was a much-admired event, attracting participants from various institutions.
In this Bonanza, which was attended by more than 400 participants from the University of Dar es Salaam and partner institutions and stakeholders, more than 11 sports were competed including football, netball, volleyball, basketball, athletics, swimming, and Music Dancing.
This event provided potentials and opportunities for exposure and networking openings with the university community and stakeholders, who are key decision-makers in diverse industries.
“This Bonanza is vital for the health of UDASA members and for strengthening collaborations between institutions as well as networking among individuals from different institutions and promoting a sense of discipline and patriotism for our members of staff towards the University and the Nation at large”, said Professor William Anangisye, the UDSM Vice Chancellor, who was also the Guest of honour for this event.
Professor Anangisye commended UDASA leadership for organising this event, and emphasized that good health, through sports, was among the key catalysts for academic excellence.
Meanwhile, UDASA Chairperson, Dr. Aviti Thadei Mushi urged UDASA members to embrace a culture of participating in sports and exercises for their health; and that the University should continue improving sports grounds with more lights that would provide members with an opportunity for doing sports at night hours.
Apart from UDASA members, other participants, especially from neighboring institutions included The University of Dodoma (UDOM), Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), Ardhi University (ARU), Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), Medical Stores Department (MSD), Clouds Media Group, Vodacom, Tigo, UDSM Administrative staff and UDSM Outsiders.
Winners and participants scooped different awards, such as trophies, medals and chicken that, according to the Organizing Committee Chairperson, Dr. Armstrong Matogwa, “were of high quality and unforgettable souvenirs in the history of these events.”
