The Vice Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam (Right), Prof. William A. L. Anangisye giving the documents to the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA)’s Deputy Commissioner for Tourism and Trade Services, Mr. Imani Nkuwi to signify handing-over of the Kilwa Kisiwani Site Museum. The newly established Site Museum was made possible by the financial support from the University of Dar es Salaam and her collaborating partner the University of St. Andrews is in the Old Prison located in Kilwa Island, Lindi Region. Researchers from the University of Dar es Salaam Department of Archeology and Heritage Studies, University of St. Andrews, National Museum of Tanzania and the Department of Antiquities in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism did renovate some rooms of the Museum, and designed the exhibitions.
The handing-over ceremony was held on 10th April 2021 at Kilwa Island and was attended by Hon. Mr. Christopher Ngubiagai, the Kilwa District Commissioner; Major General (Retired) Hamis Semfuko, Chairman of the TAWA Board; Dr. Elgidius Ichumbaki (Principal Researcher); and Mrs. Rehema Madenge, the Lindi Regional Administrative Secretary.
