A statement released by the Presidential Communications directorate on 14/03/2022, Hon. Samia has appointed Peter Ulanga as the new director-general of the Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL).

Peter Ulanga, is a seasoned Telecommunications/ICT professional with over 25 years of experience. Mr.Ulanga is a UDSM graduate class of 1992-1996 (B.Sc Engineering - Hons).
He was appointed as the first CEO to set up the Universal Communications Service Access Fund of Tanzania (UCSAF) and start its operations in 2009 where he served for 10 years. Peter has extensive knowledge of ICT sector development. From 1996-2002 he was the principal Engineer, Technical Manager and Regulatory Affairs Manager at Tanzania Telecommunication Company Ltd. In 2002 he joined Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority where he worked as a Principal Engineer up to 2009. From July 2009 to June 2019 he served as a Chief Executive Officer at Universal Communication Access Fund and from Jan 2020 to December 2020 Mr.Peter was working with African Development Bank Group as a Consultant (Digital Economy).

He is also active in standardisation work in ITU-T for over 15 years where he held leadership positions in several of the committees of Study Group 5. He has participated in several international conferences on ICTs as a speaker and a panelist.

Peter has a Masters’ Degree in Telecommunications from the University of Essex, United Kingdom (Awarded with Distinction), MBA from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and he is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) of Tanzania. He volunteers to part-time teaching at the University of Dar es Salaam.
