Anitha is a member of the academic staff of the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She joined the University in 2007 and works in the Department of Zoology and Wildlife Conservation, within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences.  Anitha earned her PhD in Applied Zoology specialized in medical entomology from the same University.  Anitha is recipient of several fellowships, awards and grants including the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA), NORAD and DAAD prestigious fellowships. Anitha does research on vector and vector-borne diseases mainly malaria and arboviruses. Anitha teaches a range of zoological courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Currently, Anitha is working to establish zoonotic arboviruses and their respective vector species at the human-wildlife interface in Tanzania. Drawing from her past and current work, Anitha has a strong passion in controlling disease vectors, she is also interested in multidisciplinary work, bridging scientists, policy makers and local communities towards creating a vector borne diseases free world.
