Dr. Dativa J. Shilla is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, teaching analytical and environmental chemistry courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Dativa holds a PhD in Environmental Chemistry from the University of the Ryukyus - Okinawa, Japan. Her PhD research was about profiles and effects of terrigenous deposits in coastal river- estuaries. Her postdoctoral research in Sweden (2014/2015) focused on the forensic examination of factors that affect the environment. Generally, her research interests include: Fingerprinting of organic matter and bioaccumulation of organic pollutants using fatty acid biomarkers and stable isotopes, aiming at identifying sources, transport processes, and the fate of organic matter in aquatic systems, aquatic pollution and environmental contaminants, Clean Energy in Urban and Rural areas. Dativa maintains membership status with the following professional associations: Tanzania Chemical Society, Faculty for the Future – Schlumberger Foundation, Organization for Women in Science for Developing World (OWSD) –Tanzanian Chapter, Forum for Women in Science, Technology and Innovation, Tanzania (STI4W), and Western Indian Ocean Marine Sciences Association (WIOMSA).
