He teaches courses in the field of Plant breeding and Molecular biology, Conservation agriculture and biodiversity. Mr. Makwinja also does research and supervises undergraduate students in research projects. He has research interests in Biodiversity conservation of vegetable landraces, yield improvement and food security. Currently, Mr. Makwinja is also pursuing a PhD in Crop Science and Technology (UDSM) where he is studying the role of mutation breeding in agronomic improvement and breeding potential of indigenous African nightshade.
