Dr. Gatambwa D. Mukandala is a lecturer at the Department of Zoology and Wildlife Conservation within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, University of Dar Es Salaam. He has been a member of staff at UDSM since 2005. He teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Dr Mukandala holds a B.S degree in Biology with a minor degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology. He holds M.S degrees in both Neuroscience and Molecular Pathology. He received a distinction for his M.S degree in neuroscience. Dr. Mukandala then received a PhD degree in Biomolecular and Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience Department from University College Dublin. He was awarded a biomedical sciences poster presentation award from the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland (RAMI) during his PhD studies.

Dr. Mukandala has the passion, skills and knowledge in biological research and academia. He lectures a number of topics including vertebrate anatomy and physiology, advanced physiology, cell biology, molecular genetics and biological methods. He has a specific interest in non-communicable diseases, specifically neurodegenerative disorders but also has collaborated on a number of other research topics he has a passion for such as mental health.
