Dr. Saumu Jumanne is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Economics, Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), A Constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). She holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), a Master of Arts in Geography and Environmental Management (MA.GEM), and a Bachelor of Science with Education majoring in Biology and Geography, all obtained from the same University. Dr. Saumu has over a decade of experience teaching courses like Biogeography, Physical Geography, Soil Resources, Contemporary Geography of Africa, Pest Infestation, Control, and Management; and Managing Hazardous Materials and Chemicals. As a Human Geographer, her research areas of interest center around crop varieties, pest control methods, post-harvest storage methods, climate change, land use/cover changes, gender, migration, rural development, environmental/natural resource management, and population and development. She is currently supervising a Master's student. Dr. Saumu has been using her extra time mentoring youths, reading books, and sharing knowledge and expertise with the broader community/audience for over a decade through a regular column/article called CROSSROADS for the Citizen on Sunday Newspaper (now an ePaper). Through her column, she has provided readers with valuable insights and perspectives on various issues related to geography, agriculture, climate change, education, women empowerment, women and children's rights, community development, environmental and natural resource management, and development-related issues in general. Her dedication to sharing knowledge and expertise beyond academia reflects her commitment to public service and positively impacting society.
