The Robotics Bootcamp held in Dar es Salaam successfully trained 289 students from 6 schools (Jangwani, Feza, Azania, Shaabani Robert, Alpha Girls and Alpha High School) offering hands-on experience in robotics technology and innovation. The boot camp intends to promote robotics in STEM to Tanzania Young future innovators from 8 to 19 years old. it is funded by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Google, and Camden Trust. It is coordinated by Ms. Eva Shana, Assistant Lecturer from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) Physics Department, the bootcamp featured facilitators Mr. Sawa Hezekiah, Gilya Sungi, both assistant lectures from physics department and technician Mr. Hashim Rajabu. Dr. Mwingereza provided expert oversight.
Throughout the boot camp, students participated in activities such as building robotic models, programming, and problem-solving sessions aimed at addressing real-world issues. The event culminated in a pitching competition, where students presented 12 innovative robotics-based solutions for societal problems on Trash and Waste Robot, Beach Waste Control Robot, Automatic Wild and City fire Fighting Robot, Brilliant Waste Management Robot, Smart Plant Automatic Monitor, Robot for Cleaning Rivers, Seismic Wave Detector Robot, Seed Sewing Detecting Robot, CO2 Emission Control Robot and Mosquito Trap Robot. The top winners will represent Tanzania to World Robot Olympiad WRO in Izmir Turkey from 28th to 30th November 2024. The robotics student team were invited by the ICT Commission to showcase their projects at the 8th Annual Conference in ICT, further demonstrating the bootcamp's impact on fostering technological solutions and youth innovation
