On 5th February ,the Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam held the 2021 Chinese New Year celebration in the multifunctional hall of the Confucius Institute. A lot of teachers and students of CI UDSM gathered together to welcome the Spring Festival.

At the beginning of the event,Prof. Liu Yan, the Chinese Director of CI UDSM ,introduced the origins and customs of the Spring Festival, and sent New Year blessings to everyone. He introduced the Chinese Proficiency Test, Confucius Institute Scholarships, Chinese Bridge Competition, etc to the students. He encouraged students to participate in various competitions and activities. He also emphasized that the prerequisite for friendly exchanges between the Chinese and Tanzanian people is mutual understanding. He hopes that everyone will work hard to learn Chinese and in the future introduce Tanzania’s excellent culture and books to China , so that the Chinese people can learn more about Tanzania.

The teachers introduced that the Spring Festival is the most solemn and  important traditional festival in China, and it is also a festival for family and friends to reunite. Students watched videos that introducing the origin, customs and traditional food of the Spring Festival for students. They had a keen interest in the customs, food, zodiac, etc. Then, the activity entered the Spring Festival knowledge of question and answer session. The students answered questions enthusiastically.

For this event, the Chinese teachers of the Confucius Institute specially made dumplings, a traditional Chinese New Year food, for everyone to taste. Many students ate dumplings for the first time.

During the activities, the students also brought wonderful performances. They welcomed the New Year by singing Chinese songs.

At the end of the activity, the students also take this opportunity to send New Year blessings to everyone and wish you all a happy Chinese New Year and a blessed year of the Ox! The Chinese New Year event came to an end with everyone's blessings.
