The Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) of the University of Dar es Salaam, located in Zanzibar, in collaboration with Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT), Bremen, Germany, is organizing a workshop on Sustainable Use of Tropical Aquatic Systems (SUTAS).
The theme of the workshop is “Sustainable Use of Tropical Aquatic Systems”. One of the objectives of the workshop is to receive scientific results from Leibniz ZMT and IMS graduate (PhD and MSc.) students. During the workshop the students and Senior Researchers from IMS and ZMT will give special lectures covering different topics of tropical on Fisheries, Coral reefs, Seagrass, Aquaculture and nutrition and health. The presentations will discuss how to communicate scientific results to the public and thus the last day of the workshop will focus on exchange of experiences between coastal zone decision makers (Fisheries, MPAs, Local Authority, DSFA, and Representatives from Fishers, ZAFIDE, and Tour Operator representatives) and Researchers. The main purpose is to discover scientific information gaps and develop a common research agenda that considers managers future needs.
