Department of Agricultural Economics and Business

 

DAEB is one of the departments in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Fisheries Technology (CoAF) of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). It aims to provide students with solid background knowledge in the major areas of the Economics and Business of agriculture and natural resources disciplines. The department prepares students wishing to continue with further studies and who wish to develop a professional career in the fields of Agricultural Economics, Natural Resources Economics and the corresponding Business Studies.

DAEB covers areas such as

Agricultural production economics;
Agribusiness and post-harvest management;
Agricultural policies and food security;
Marketing and trading of agricultural and natural resources;
Food economics and consumer studies;
Agricultural innovations and entrepreneurship studies;
Natural resource economics; and
Livestock production economics.

The DAEB offers Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Natural Resources Economics and Business (B.Sc.ANEB). This bachelor degree has four pillars namely: (i) Agriculture, (ii) Natural Resources, (iii) Economics and (iv) Business. Skills from each of the four pillars are necessary for better management of agribusiness and related issues

Spearheading transformation from government-driven production programme to market-oriented business centred on value-addition and of post-harvest management;

Changing students mindsets from always being job seekers to becoming critical thinkers, innovators and job creators in the fields of agribusinesses and natural resources

DAEB graduates and trainees are expected to develop the following sets of skills:
Entrepreneurship and innovation;
Agribusiness and post-harvest management;
Marketing and trading of agricultural & natural resources products;
Data analysis skills;
Project design, management, research and training;
Communication, dissemination and presentation;
and Policy analysis, design and implementation.
