AFCAP Research Programme
The Government of Tanzania, through the Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Governments (PMO-RALG), had entered into a technical partnership with the Africa Community Access Programme (AFCAP) for the purpose of implementing cost effective, reliable and sustainable access solutions for rural communities. Specifically, AFCAP was designed to assist with the implementation of research/demonstration sites in selected districts in Tanzania, namely Bagamoyo district (Coast Region) and Siha district (Kilimanjaro Region) and funded a research project on “Design, Construction and Monitoring of Demonstration Sites for District Road Improvement” in the above-mentioned districts. The TGE Department concluded the AFCAP project where two students were supported to pursue degree of Master of Science in Highway Engineering by Thesis in the research areas as shown below.

Research Group and Centers
The Department initiated several research groups; Transport Studies, Geotechnical Engineering, Geomatics, and Ocean Engineering. These groups are still informal and should be aligned in accordance with the UDSM guidelines and if possible eventually form a research center.
