About Internationalization and Convocation Unit (ICU)
In October 2019, DUCE established the Internationalization and Advancement Unit (IAU) (currently Internationalization and Convocation Unit (ICU). The unit was established to respond to DUCE vison of becoming a prominent hub for technology-driven transformative education, research, innovation and public service for sustainable and inclusive development. The ICU’s obligations is to foster integrations and alliances with other institutions across the globe. For instance, DUCE has collaborations with more than 32 institutions, most of which are universities. Through such partnerships, the College is engaging in international joint research, exchange programs as well as joint application of consultancies. Additionally, the ICU provides information on application, admission, visas and permits to all international students, scholars and researchers from various countries. The Unit also provides professional guidance to DUCE academic staff and students who are seeking for scholarships overseas.
The ICU encourages DUCE Staff who studied abroad and/or those with external links are to work with the unit in formalizing the links for the benefits of the College community. DUCE values the presence of international students and scholars and recognizes the important role they play in the life of the College. We have a rich tradition of welcoming international visitors from all parts of the world and Internationalization and Convocation Unit welcoming you and is committed to providing quality service and ensure a smooth settling at DUCE.
INTERNATIONAL VISITATIONS 2024
DUCE in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the British Council, the Aga Khan Foundation, EdTechHub, GEEAP and British Council organized a conference, named; UTAFITI ELIMU CONFERENCE held on 28th-29th February 2024. The objective of the conference was to bring together education researchers and policy makers, examine the education landscape in Tanzania and explore how research on intervention can support growth and opportunities in education sector.
The Future Teacher Education for Sustainable Development (FUTE) team have conducted a four-day working session at DUCE from March 4th to March 7th, 2024. The purpose of this meeting was to organize the activities of the project cycle and establish the foundation for the initiative. The University of Eastern Finland serves as the coordinating institution, while the University of Namibia (UNA) and Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) are partner institutions.
INTERNATIONAL VISITATIONS 2023
Staff at the College including primary school and secondary school teachers attended a Mathematics event for teachers, educators and policy makers in Shanghai (China). These were led by College’s deputies - Prof. Method Samwel Semiono (DP-PFA) and Dr. Christina Raphael Isingo (DP-ARC), and the Head of internationalization and convocation unit, Dr. Mjege Kinyota Kateko.
The event aimed at charting out collective strategies to improve the performance of Mathematics in the country via policy, teacher education and teacher professional development. The UNESCO Teacher Education Center under Shanghai Normal University was the sole funder of the event. Other participants came from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) and President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG).

2. Teachers at the College trained in Mathematics pedagogy
Teachers of Mathematics at demonstration schools attended a special capacity building workshop for teaching Mathematics, thanks to Shanghai-Tanzania Exchange Programme. The programme is funded jointly by Research Institute for International and Comparative Education of Shanghai Normal University (China) and UNESCO-TECH. The team of exchange programme from Shanghai included Prof. Huang Xinfeng (The program lead specialist), Dr. Ding Ruoxi (Project Coordinator and Postdoctoral researcher) and Mr. Wang, Hao (Technician). Other Mathematics teachers are Ms. Lin Xumai, Ms. Xhu Yiyi and Ms. Cheng Yijun.

3. Students from the University of West Bohemia visit the College
On a study tour in Tanzania, six students from the University of West Bohemia in the Czech Republic visited Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) in September 2023. Their visit is part of the proposed cooperation and academic exchange relations between West Bohemia and DUCE. These students are Anna-Marie Vinsova, Katerina Dolejsova, Marek Sojka, Alice Anguis and Jan Vavrik.
During a one-month stay, they attended and participated in workshops and lectures. They managed to visits to the National Museum of Tanzania, the Village Museum (Dar es Salaam) and various tour centres in Zanzibar.
