In a bid to strengthen capacity building for its academic staff and deepen its impact on the community, DUCE has recently conducted a Monitoring and Evaluation Consultancy (MEC) proposal writing training workshop.

MEC is advocated to provide academic staff with skills for analysing requests for proposals. Correspondingly, MEC help to systematically assess project descriptions and clearly understand objectives, scopes of assignments, key performance indicators, institutional arrangements, durations of work, professional qualifications of contractors, submission of documents, prices and schedules of payments.

The training workshop was facilitated by Dr. Isaack Michael, who is a founder, managing director and lead expert of the Derich Consulting Limited in Dar es Salaam. He is also a monitoring and evaluation expert of various projects in agriculture, small and medium enterprises, education, health, water sanitation, natural resources, renewable energy, environment and climate change.

The training covered various issues, including developing methodology sections, budgeting and resource allocations, writing and presentation skills and submission process. Moreover, the participants had opportunity to engage in discussions, networking, and participating in practical exercises.

Presenting her opening remarks, the Deputy Principal (Academic, Research and Consultancy), Dr. Christina Raphael encouraged dedicated DUCE staff to become professional consultancy experts. She emphasized that consultancy is a crucial discipline that requires exercising personal expertise, fostering a culture of collaboration and building practical skills through consulting services.

Through such interactive workshops, the academic staff are equipped with newfound skills that became tools for navigating complexities with confidence and agility, ensuring that DUCE remains at the forefront of transformative change in the community.
