MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION (M�A� ED) FULL TIME

 

SoED offers Master of Arts in Education (MA ED) degree programme by thesis and by coursework and dissertation.

 

Entry Requirements

  1. The minimum qualification for admission into MAED is a bachelor degree in education with a GPA of 2.7 or above from University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) or any other institution recognized by TCU.
  2. A Postgraduate Diploma in Education offered by the University of Dar es Salaam School of Education (SOED), or any other institution recognized by TCU may also suffice for consideration for admission into MAED.
  3. SOED Board may also consider applicants with any other equivalent qualification not mentioned above, subject to the Senate approval

  1. Fulltime students shall complete their coursework within the first 2 semesters of enrolment. Within the third semester the candidate must submit the spiral and loose bound dissertation ready for presentation at department level and for examination respectively
  2. Part-time candidates shall include those following evening programmes to complete their coursework within the first 18 months of enrolment
  3. The minimum time for the dissertation phase shall be 6 months.
  4. The credit system shall be used to gauge the workload involved in a programme
  5. One credit is equal to learning outcomes achievable in 10 notional hours of learning time

 

determined on the basis of a learner with an average learning speed

  1. A minimum of 120 credits shall be completed to satisfy the coursework requirement before proceeding to the dissertation phase, unless otherwise stated. A dissertation shall have 60 credits
  2. In addition, a candidate may be required to take certain undergraduate courses that are pre- requisites for some postgraduate courses. However, will not be considered in the final degree evaluation

 

Assessment

  1. Each course shall be offered and assessed in the same semester and a grade awarded
  2. With the approval of the respective SOED Board, coursework completed in postgraduate studies at other universities may contribute to the coursework requirements for the MAED degree. The equivalent weighting of this coursework will be determined by SOED Board in accordance to the University Qualification Framework set by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU)
  3. The average grade/Pass for all postgraduate courses must be at least “B”
  4. A candidate whose GPA is below 2.7 shall be discontinued from the programme
  5. A candidate whose overall GPA is 2.7 or above, shall be allowed to do supplementary examinations in the failed courses
  6. The maximum grade that can be attained from a supplementary examination shall be “B”
  7. Candidates who fail in more than one supplementary examination shall be discontinued from the programme
  8. Candidate who fails in only one supplementary examination shall be allowed to repeat the failed course.
  9. A candidate who repeats a course and fails in the first sitting examination shall not be allowed a supplementary, and shall be discontinued from the programme
  10. Final examination shall be held immediately upon completing a course. The weighting of this final examination in determining the grade for the course shall be University Examination 50%andContinuous Assessment 50%. The form of assessment shall be specified by respective instructors at the beginning of the course
  11. For the dissertation phase, the candidate in consultation with the supervisor shall formulate a research proposal
  12. University guidelines on the preparation of dissertations shall apply

MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION (M�A ED) EVENING

University of Dar es Salaam, School of Education offers MAED programme by coursework and dissertation in the evening. The aim of the programme is to widen access to residence Dar es Salaam and neighbouring regions to have a place of study after working hours. Entry qualifications, courses, structure, assessment and evaluation, rules and regulations are the same as MAED programme except that the programme is offered in the evening.

 

MASTER OF EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION (MEMA)

SoED offers Master of Educational Management and Administration (MEMA) degree programme by thesis or by coursework and dissertation. MEMA programme aims at training and developing high quality educational managers and administrators that are critically needed to strengthenthe ability of the ministryresponsible for education, regional/local authorities, higher education institutions and schools to provide the highest quality of education in Tanzania.

  1. The minimum qualification for admission into MEMA is a bachelor degree in education with a GPA of 2.7 or above from University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) or any other institution recognized by TCU
  2. A Postgraduate Diploma in Education offered by the SOED, or any other institution recognized

SOED offers Master of Arts in Applied Social Psychology (MAASP) degree programme by coursework and dissertation. MAASP programme aims at training and developing high quality social psychologist that are critically needed to strengthen the psychological wellbeing of children, adolescents/youth, adults, students, teachers and the Tanzanian population at large; providing critical analysis of health behaviours and life styles with the view of improving quality of life; strengthening the link between University of Dar es Salaam and the Tanzanian community; and advancing teaching and quality of research in the socio cultural behavioural fields.
