Edmund Sengondo Adrian Mwarabu Mvungi was a Senior Lecturer in Law at the then Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law (now Department of Public Law). Dr. Mvungi was the Dean of the School (then Faculty of Law) from 1987 to 2003.
Dean Mvungi obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B. - 1981) and a Master of Laws degree (LL.M. – 1987) from the University of Dar-es-Salaam. He then proceeded to Germany where he obtained a Magister Legum and a Dr. iur degree (Ph.D.) in 1991 and 1994, respectively, from Hamburg University. He taught, consulted and provided public service in the areas of media law, human rights and constitutional law.
Dr. Mvungi was a politician, activist, journalist and an Advocate, Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths. He was one of the pioneering and founding members of the Legal and Human Rights Center, (LHRC) and the University of Bagamoyo. He was also a Presidential candidate during the 2005 National Elections. He later served as a Member of the Tanzanian Constitutional Review Commission, 2011 – 2014.
Dean Dr. Mvungi published extensively in the areas of media law, constitutional law, human rights and administrative law. He passed on in 2013.
