Michael Kajela Beatus Wambali was born on 29th March 1954 in Mpanda, Rukwa/Katavi Region. Professor Wambali joined the University in 1982 and moved ranks to the position of Associate Professor of Law at the Department of Public Law. Prof. Wambali also served as the Head of the same Department in different periods and was its Head at the time of his death. He was Associate Dean (Administration) in 1989.
Professor Wambali obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) in 1981 and Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Dar-es-Salaam in 1985. He obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in International Law and Organization for Development from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands in 1988 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in 1996 from the University of Warwick. He specialized in the law of tort, criminal law, evidence, human rights and constitutional law.
Prof. Wambali was an Advocate, Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths and a senior member of the Tanganyika Law Society and the East Africa Law Society the Bar Associations for Tanzania Mainland and East African countries, respectively, since 1986.
Prof. Wambali published extensively in the areas of constitutional law, human rights and the law of tort. He died on 4th April 2013.
